Revolutionizing Remote Work: The Clipe Home Desk

Rosina Secondi's Award-Winning Design Balances Functionality and Aesthetics

As remote work becomes increasingly popular, the demand for home office furniture that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing is on the rise. Enter Clipe, an adaptable workspace solution designed by Rosina Secondi and her team. This home desk, which won the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2018, is a testament to innovative design and thoughtful functionality.

The inspiration behind Clipe stems from the modern professional's desire for a better work-life balance and the increasing adoption of flexible work-from-home options by companies across various industries. This shift towards remote working has given rise to the need for a workspace that is adaptable and embodies the concept of working without walls. Clipe, with its ability to configure its elements, provides an organized space that enhances the work-from-home experience.

What sets Clipe apart from other home desks is its simple yet contemporary structure. Made from natural beech wood with a low gloss polished finish, the desk blends seamlessly with everyday home furniture, without compromising on its functionality. The name 'Clipe' is derived from the way the set of trays of different sizes engage with the desk's structure, allowing for adaptability to various needs.

The production process of Clipe involves the use of standard joinery for the structure and desktop carpentry. The mobile trays are made from folded 24-gauge steel sheets with an outstepping flange that connects with the desk structure. All joining elements are Allen head metric screws with screwed-in caps. The desk's assembled dimensions are 127cm width x 80cm depth x 100cm height, designed with transportation and online retail shipping in mind.

The interaction with Clipe is intuitive, with the trays encased in the wooden structure and can be freely interchanged without the need for screws. The design project, which started in November 2016 in Montevideo, was based on research that focused on the type of work that can be done from home, the elements surrounding each user, and the space within the house where work is conducted. This research helped define the type of interchangeable supports and the general appearance of the product.

The biggest challenge faced by the design team was choosing a system that allowed an intuitive exchange of parts without using screws or other grip systems. Achieving a balance between the simplicity of the product, its functionality, and contemporary, high-quality appearance was another challenge. Despite these challenges, Clipe emerged as an adaptable workspace solution that caters to individual needs, offering a more organized space and a better work-from-home experience.
